How do I size a substation battery bank?
Substation battery sizing follows IEEE 485 methodology, considering the design load profile (continuous loads + momentary loads like breaker tripping), minimum cell voltage, temperature correction, aging factor, and required autonomy time. Can Naradex batteries handle circuit breaker tripping currents?
Yes. Our NL2 and OPzV batteries are designed for high-rate discharge applications. The ND12-200, for example, can deliver 1200A for 5 seconds. For substation applications requiring momentary high-current discharge, we specify the battery to meet your worst-case breaker tripping scenario.
What is the difference between NL2 AGM and OPzV gel for utility applications?
NL2 AGM batteries offer 15+ year design life at lower cost — suitable for most substations.
